Join us at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library on Fri., Sep. 26 at 6:30pm as we celebrate 40 years of Library Excellence, Honor leaders of the DC Public Library Renaissance, Launch DCPLF’s First ever Children’s Book, and Bring Back our Battle of the Banned All Stars!
In 1985, DCPLF began supporting the DC Public Library through enhancing, expanding and innovating Library programming. What started with the installation of the beloved MLK, Jr. Mural is now retuning nearly $2,000,000 a year in community programming. Ranging from youth literacy to yoga for seniors and digital navigation to support of our most vulnerable populations; the Foundation is poised to grow and continue this legacy for another 40 years!
DCPLF will honor the architect of the DC Public Library Renaissance, the Honorable Anthony A. Williams with the Power the Dream Transformer Award.
DCPLF will honor radio personality and freedom advocate, Mr. Kojo Nnamdi with the Power the Dream Ignighting the Community Award.
DCPLF will honor NT Times Best selling Author and Poet, Mr. Clint Smith with the Power the Dream Spotlight Award.
We will Launch its first ever Children’s Book with a live read aloud of, “Adventures with Bon” based on our Past Chairperson of the Board, Bonnie Cohen.
Finally, our freedom in DC is not guaranteed! We will celebrate the legacy of our annual banned book Event; Battle of the Banned by showcasing 4 New Banned Book Art Displays created by our All Star DC Librarians!
